Commercial solar, reimagined for cities
Sunzaun completed what is believed to be the first vertical bifacial solar installation in an urban commercial environment in the United States at Bodhi Hot Yoga & Fitness in San Rafael, California. Designed for a space-constrained all-electric business with limited rooftop options, the system uses 16 vertically mounted bifacial solar panels installed along the parking lot perimeter without sacrificing parking spaces. The project demonstrates how vertical solar can provide a viable alternative for urban properties where conventional rooftop or ground-mounted systems are not practical.
Off-Grid Electricity, Keeping Land in Production
In Tennessee, a homeowner selected Sunzaun vertical PV racking to keep his land in active production while generating enough electricity to power his home year-round. The vertical bifacial design preserves open space on the property, and paired with battery storage, the 4 rows support energy independence across seasons.
UC Davis Crop Research
At UC Davis, Sunzaun vertical bifacial PV is part of a 200 kW agrivoltaics research installation comparing multiple PV racking types within a single working farm field. Designed around real farming operations, the site evaluates energy production, crop performance, and land-use efficiency under commercial-scale conditions.
The project aims to shape data-driven, agriculture-first approaches to agrivoltaics in California and beyond. Read more about this project here.
Residential Privacy Fence
In 2025, Sunzaun installed their vertical racking system for along the fence line of residential property in Portland, Oregon, in partnership with local solar contractor Cascade Solar. This privacy fence is dual-use in that it also generates energy to lower home electrical costs.
Vertical Canal Solar
UC Merced’s project focuses on vertical solar panels positioned beside the canals, complementing the planned Project Nexus design of overhead canopies.
Corn Research
The ARDEC facility at Colorado State University already has 2 years of vertical PV research data available. Scientists explore how agrivoltaics can contribute to sustainable corn farming.
Rutgers Animal Farm
Rutgers University in New Jersey selected the Sunzaun vertical solar racking system for its research farm facility. Current research observes cattle grazing patterns and pasture grass regeneration between Sunzaun rows.
Somerset Gourmet
A 23 kW Sunzaun installation on the winery of Somerset Gourmet Farms in Somerset, CA. The vertical systems follows the hilly area over 200 feet between the grapevines.
